David W. Rushton holds a B.Mus. with distinction from McGill University (music education/choral/keyboard emphasis), a M.Mus. in music theory from the University of Alberta, a doctorate (Ed.D.) in music education from the University of British Columbia, and an A.R.C.T. diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In addition, he has studied choral and orchestral conducting with several of Canada’s respected conductors. A member of the Trinity Western University faculty since 1973, he held administrative positions as Fine Arts division chairman for three years and chair of the music department for fourteen. Dr. Rushton currently holds the rank of full professor and is the senior professor in the department of music where he teaches in the areas of music theory, music appreciation, and conducting. From 1982-1985 he conducted the Abbotsford Christian Choral Society, and for ten years (1988-98) he served as conductor and artistic director of the Fraser Valley Symphony. Throughout his career he has also been actively involved in church music as a choral conductor, organist and pianist. He continues to be active as a church musician, organist, accompanist, and guest lecturer. He and his wife Eleanor have three grown children and one grandchild.
